Brave Ones
“Am I brave enough to fail? Do I care enough to put myself out there? to try?”
I suspected it would be well worth the investment when I decided last minute to sign up for Leadercast 2015. They had enlisted an incredible lineup of speakers, but it was the title of the event that truly caught my attention. Brave Ones. Creating a small business has prompted me to take many brave, new steps, and I knew that I would benefit from a dose of business wisdom and inspiration. I was right. Thoughts and insight flew at me like water from a firehose and I furiously scribbled all the notes I could.
One of the speakers, Seth Godin, best-selling author, passionately shared thinking that resonated with my creative spirit. Many of his words aligned with what motivated me to step out and be brave enough to try. He encouraged all leaders and entrepreneurs to “make art.” He defined “Art” not as a painting or a sculpture, but as “doing something for the first time; something that might not work.”
Being brave and creating art live side by side. I never know for sure when I touch a paintbrush or pencil to paper how it is going to work. I still do it. Time and practice has given me increasing confidence in the finished outcome of every attempt.
How I live my life can be Art in the same way. Most of what I am doing day to day is “doing something for the first time.” Many of the new things I am attempting “might not work.” I still do it. Being brave and living in this way has called me to trust God for guidance from day to day, moment to moment. And the result… confidently embracing both faith and risk adds such wonderful color and texture to the canvas of my life, my Art.
Be Brave.
